A Week in the Life of a Blind Bay Mom

We are lucky enough to have been born and raised, surrounded by long lines of family, in the Shuswap! Now we get to raise kids of our own here! I think sometimes, we truly take for granted, the absolute beauty of home!

While my partner heads to work every morning, my two-year-old twin boys and I, start every day with a 5+km walk around Blind Bay! We stop at Sandy Beach for a look at the Canadian Geese and their families and continue on to Cenntenial field where the boys love to get out and run for a few minutes. We enjoy walking over to Cedar Heights park or down to Pebble Beach in the afternoon for a play. Or else you can find us heading to the splash park in Sorrento.

We also like to hike a few times a week, our favourite is the White Lake Lookout or Mt. Baldy. For something more challenging (without the boys) Mcaurther Heights trail is what I choose. It’s so beautiful. The view is more than worth the work! We are lucky to have the option to walk to the Village Grocer for all our grocery needs. Their selection of local, organic, nutritious foods is plenty. This is very important to me! On Saturday’s, we are regulars to the farmers market in Sorrento. As much as we can, we support our local, small businesses and farmers.

Thankfully there are many activities, playgroups and learning opportunities for small children. During the week we like to head into the library in Blind Bay for story and song time!

For moms night out, once a month, all summer, I’ve been enjoying Shuswap Marina’s, After Hours Social! What a good time! Packed with amazing local vendors and an atmosphere like no other! Most likely ending the evening at Finz for a nightcap, with a view.

On the weekends we head down the lake to Eagle Bay, where we enjoy good times with family and friends at the lake house. Eagle Bay Mercantile is stocked with all the groceries and convenient items we need, making it easy to stick around! Whether kayaking, fishing or swimming, we take full advantage of our gorgeous lake. We often enjoy a drive or ATV ride up into the mountains, there is no shortage of backcountry to explore!

Many people underestimate all the things to do, resources and entertainment available in our community! Living a life full of outdoors, physical activity, nutritious food and supporting local is most important to me and my family. I am so passionate about my continuing education and business in wellness and holistic nutrition, and the Shuswap allows us to do it all! We are so lucky to be living our dream, every day, in paradise.
